The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) has opened the public vote for its unique "memorable moment" prize, the only category in the Bafta TV Awards where the winner is determined by the general public. This highly anticipated accolade allows viewers to have a direct influence on the awards, with voting open until 25 April. The winners will be revealed at the Bafta TV Awards ceremony, scheduled for 11 May.
The eligibility period for this prize covers the entire 2024 calendar year. However, some nominees may feel a bit dated to voters due to the extended eligibility window. Notably, "The Traitors" and "Mr Bates vs The Post Office" were both aired 14 months ago, in January 2023. Despite the time elapsed since their broadcast, these shows have left a lasting impression on viewers.
This year's nominees for the "memorable moment" prize include popular TV shows such as "Gavin and Stacey," "Strictly Come Dancing," and "Bridgerton." Each nomination highlights a standout scene that resonated with audiences. "The Traitors" captivated viewers with a revealing moment where a contestant disclosed that another player was their son. Meanwhile, "Mr Bates vs The Post Office" shocked audiences with a subpostmistress's startling realization about her predicament.
Other contenders include "The Rivals," which features a memorable scene of naked tennis, and "Strictly Come Dancing," known for its electrifying blackout dance performance. Additionally, "Bridgerton" is nominated for a romantic moment between two characters, capturing the hearts of many viewers.
While the public vote determines the winner of the "memorable moment" prize, nominees for all other Bafta TV Awards categories will be announced later this month. These categories will be judged by a panel of experts, with winners revealed during the ceremony on 11 May.
