The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is building fast. Perhaps no company gets as much growth as Musk’s Tesla, yet there too, Tesla is quietly advising the White House. Notably, the agency is preparing to double its workforce, from 100 employees to 200 employees. They’ll be especially interested in hiring young engineers, whom they define as 19-24. These engineers are tasked with identifying and eliminating positions that Musk deems unnecessary, leading to widespread layoffs across various federal agencies.
As DOGE’s influence increases, so does public outrage. Protests against Musk’s actions have grown into violence, leading to attacks on Tesla dealerships and cars. Florida Attorney General Pamela Bondi has denounced these actions, calling them “domestic terrorism.” Considering how serious the situation is, there has yet to be a single charge of domestic terrorism filed.
Expansion of DOGE
Under Musk’s direction, DOGE is growing its reach and operations at a remarkable pace. The agency’s increase from 100 to 200 employees highlights its ambitions to reshape government efficiency. Musk’s hiring practices are ageist, as many of the new hires have been between the ages of 19–24.
This batch of young engineers are tasked with the important but tenuous job of defending federal jobs that already exist and proposing phasing them out when appropriate. This approach has raised concerns regarding job security for thousands of federal employees who may find their roles eliminated as DOGE implements its agenda.
Public Backlash and Violence
As DOGE continues to implement its policies, public opposition has taken on a new life through formal protests. These demonstrators are protesting Musk’s leadership of the agency, and the agency’s overall militaristic/union-busting attack on federal employment. Yet, these protests have turned into a dangerous attack.
According to some recent reports these protests have turned into violent acts against Teslas and Tesla property. Last month, Florida Attorney General Pamela Bondi declared these acts “domestic terrorism.” She wants folks to understand how serious the actions taken against private property were.

The FBI has promised to pursue justice with “swift action” against those behind the violence.

Legal Consequences for Perpetrators
One of the most recent arrests is Owen McIntire, who was easily identifiable for his role in a terrorist attack on Tesla property. Footage from surveillance cameras shows him hurling a Molotov cocktail at one of the company’s Cybertrucks. Witnesses testified that he was present in the area during the shooting.
According to court documents, GPS data from McIntire’s phone tracked his movements to the Tesla dealership. This piece of evidence places him on scene when the fires first started. He’s been charged with multiple felonies for the destruction of EVs and charging infrastructure. If convicted, McIntire faces a five-year minimum prison sentence.
In no uncertain terms, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said that McIntire would not be getting a plea deal. This proclamation further solidifies the government’s iron-clad resolve to hold people responsible for their actions directly harmful to Tesla assets.

The FBI has made two arrests this week already in connection with attacks on Tesla properties. While investigations are underway, authorities are on high alert as protests continue to spark amid the anger and frustration linked to Musk’s reign over DOGE.
