As the championship bout dropped to the canvas, Pimblett started to tire, his need for an ice bath evident as he entered Round 2. He showed a lot of resilience and tactical acumen, getting the good body work in to keep Chandler on the back foot. With an impressive total of 4:41 of control time throughout the match, Pimblett showcased his ability to dominate the fight.
That moment of fate came just one minute into the third round. Pimblett fired off a brutal knee that opened up Chandler, turning the tide decisively in Pimblett’s favor. Following that climactic moment, Pimblett immediately advanced to mount. His elbows opened up such a dramatic cut that the referee was obliged to end the fight.
After winning, Pimblett wasted no time in targeting a number of fighters ahead of him in the lightweight hierarchy. He even called out his next possible opponents by name, mentioning Charles Oliveira, Dustin Poirier, and Justin Gaethje.
