A nationwide recall has been issued for carrots and mixed vegetable medleys sold by 4Earth Farms, following a deadly E. coli outbreak linked to Grimmway Farms. This recall has resulted in at least 39 illnesses and one death, prompting urgent action from health officials. The recalled products were sold between August and October, with best by dates ranging from September 7, 2024, to November 2, 2024, at prominent retailers such as Walmart and Sprouts Farmers Market.
The E. coli outbreak associated with these products can incubate symptoms up to ten days after consumption, although most individuals experience symptoms within three to four days. These symptoms include severe dehydration, high fever, vomiting, bloody diarrhea, and excruciating abdominal cramps. E. coli is a dangerous bacterium that poses significant health risks, emphasizing the necessity of this recall.
4Earth Farms initiated the recall after receiving notification from Grimmway Farms, whose carrots were identified as the source of the contamination in a broader recall effort dating back to November. However, the current recall does not cover products currently available on store shelves. Instead, it applies to items already purchased within the specified dates.
The affected products include the 4Earth Farms Organic Vegetable Medley, 12 oz, UPC 803944306999, and the 4Earth Farms Vegetable Medley, 12 oz, UPC 803944307064. These items were distributed through retailers such as Albert's Organics, O.K. Produce, UNFI, and Kennedy Produce.
