The YouTube star MrBeast is best known for his over-the-top cash promos and competitions. Recently, he did make a big splash in a bad way with the “MrBeast Experience” at Resorts World Las Vegas. Promoted as an “immersive” and “unforgettable” event, the three-day experience failed to meet the expectations of many fans who had traveled from afar to participate.
What should have been a dream event for hundreds of thousands of attendees in search of the coolest games and most unique experiences became a deflating reality for many. Fans came expecting plenty of mini-games, meet and greets, photo opportunities and one-of-a-kind offerings—like these special drinks. Some participants reported waiting in their hotel rooms for mystery bags that did not live up to the hype. Each bag was guaranteed special limited edition merch and one lucky winner would even get a dream gift voucher—$10,000, to be exact.
Theresa Metta, a long time fan who traveled to Las Vegas with her mother decried the lack of thought put into the event. It was brutal,” delVecchio said, summing up how everyone who felt betrayed by the day said it was.
The frustrations quickly boiled over as a crowd of frustrated fans built up. They challenged Alex Dixon, the new CEO of Resorts World Las Vegas, on Tuesday. The disappointed fans clamored for a partial refund on the $1,000 (included with travel expenses) they paid for the climactic event. Others were quick to express their dissatisfaction and frustration at the difference between what had been promised and what was ultimately provided.
Facing that backlash, MrBeast—whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson—admitted that the event failed in some important respects. He admitted that it “definitely isn’t the experience we hoped they’d deliver.” He listened to the pleas of his despondent constituents. To atone for their disappointing visit, he extended an invitation for each of them to come experience his studio in-person.
As you know, with over 385 million subscribers, MrBeast has built the largest YouTube channel ever, mostly thanks to his entertaining videos and acts of kindness. The Las Vegas celebration was meant to be a love letter to his fans. Instead, it has set off a firestorm of criticism.
