The annual diet rankings report has crowned the Mediterranean diet as the top-rated diet for 2025, maintaining its position as a leading choice for overall health. This comprehensive report evaluates 38 diets across 21 categories, offering a valuable resource for individuals seeking to improve their dietary habits, whether for weight loss or other health reasons. Released by a panel of 69 expert nutritionists, including medical doctors and registered dietitians, the report serves as a guide to help people navigate the myriad of diet options available.

The Mediterranean diet received an impressive rating of 4.7 out of 5, excelling in 12 categories such as heart health, brain function, and gut health. This diet emphasizes the consumption of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, healthy fats, fish, and poultry. It also advises against overindulgence in sweets, red meats, and processed foods. Samantha Cassetty, MS, RD, highlights the benefits of this diet by stating:

Weight Watchers emerged as the top-rated diet for weight loss with a score of 4.6. The DASH diet leads in diabetes management with an outstanding rating of 4.9, while the Flexitarian diet is favored for plant-based eating, earning a rating of 4.6. Meanwhile, the MIND diet stands out for mental health support with a rating of 4.7. These ratings underscore the importance of tailoring dietary choices to individual health needs and conditions.

The report utilizes a robust 5-point rating system to evaluate each diet's effectiveness and suitability. Expert panelists assessed each diet based on evidence-backed criteria. The report underscores the common features shared by top-rated diets, which include an emphasis on whole foods and balanced eating.
