Lorraine Kelly, the ubiquitous TV communicator and journalist, has now publicly revealed her pre-surgery treatment at 65. On Saturday, she took to social media to share a video from her hospital bed, informing her fans that she had not been “feeling all that well for a little while.” She’s about to have a laparoscopic bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. This complicated surgery will entail the removal of her ovaries and fallopian tubes.
It’s definitely the boldest thing I’ve ever done in my over 37-year broadcasting career. She started her career on Good Morning Britain in 1988. Then from 2010, she became the face of her beloved, self-titled morning news program, Lorraine. Despite her health challenges, she expressed optimism about her recovery, assuring her followers that she was “going to be totally fine.”
In her blog update, Kelly highlighted healthcare workers’ attentiveness and empathy for patients, as well as the skilled care they provided. She said she felt “extremely fortunate to be treated like that.” She extended her special appreciation to gynaecologist Dr. Ahmed Raafat and the whole medical team for their support throughout this period.
The procedure itself usually takes one to two hours, plus a few hours of recovery in the hospital. Yet the NHS advises patients to take two to four weeks off work after this sort of surgery. This channeling of energy provides an important time for emotional recovery and healing.
Kelly’s announcement has led to a torrent of all best wishes from her associates at ITV. Other advance presenters Katie Piper, Charlotte Hawkins and Susanna Reid posted touching tributes on Instagram. They all sent her their desire for a “speedy recovery.”
