Liverpool Secures Premier League Title Against Tottenham Amidst Challenging Season

Liverpool Football Club secured the Premier League title in style last week with a 3-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur. That’s an impressive accomplishment in a year full of challenges. Despite facing an autumn dry spell that temporarily hindered their progress, Liverpool demonstrated resilience and determination, ultimately finishing the season strong.

Despite their continued best efforts, the club had a legitimate drop off in quality to start the year, that left them lagging behind their peers. Since that fateful November 2, Liverpool has found another level of consistency, losing just once in the league. They were having a great run, but ran into the immovable object of five draws in their last eight league games. This clearly complicated their bid for the title.

Liverpool this season averaged 1.48 points per game in matches decided by zero or one goal. This is a dropoff compared to their previous norm of 1.97 smidgen points per game over the past two years. Had they simply continued their historic trend, they would have received nearly ten more points this cycle. This would have gone a long way to make their positions much stronger.

One driver of Liverpool’s success this season has been their ability to convert quality chances into offensive volume. The squad started increasing its attempts per game, going from 1.2 more than their opponents to an incredible 2.1. The result of their terrific play has been them becoming the league leaders in this statistic! This new aggressive attacking mindset took root, largely due to some larger than life players. Including combined goal contributions, Mohamed Salah really did blaze a trail, registering no fewer than 27 combined goals and assists in each league campaign since his debut.

Ryan Gravenberch became a key defensive contributor for Liverpool. He finished second in interceptions and fourth in ball recoveries. With that performance, he cemented himself as one of the league’s most dependable ball progressors. Gravenberch finished in ninth for the most kilometers covered overall, highlighting his intensity and dedication out on the field.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was a strong second in the metric, sixth in expected assists from pass completions, eighth in progressive passes. His progress as a playmaker has been central to Liverpool’s attacking game across the whole campaign and particularly down the right side.

Liverpool’s title challenge was boosted by a marked decline in form from Manchester City over the course of the 2024-25 season. The club made the most of this opportunity, doing their business efficiently while other, similarly ambitious clubs flailed around trying to stay a step ahead.

As Liverpool comes to the end of their season, they’re set to finish with an astounding 91.6 points. If true, this would be one of the highest-ever tallies recorded by a Premier League side not coached by Pep Guardiola. This success is entirely due to the genius and individual talent of our team members. Most importantly, it depicts their drive and togetherness as a team throughout an arduous campaign.
