Linda Nolan, a beloved member of the 1970s girlband The Nolans, left an indelible mark on Blackpool's entertainment scene. Her journey began with The Nolans, who captured the hearts of many with their string of hits and frequent appearances on Top Of The Pops and other television variety shows. Their influence was so profound that Blackpool FC chose one of their songs to play as the team ran onto the pitch. However, Linda's impact extended far beyond her time with the band.
After The Nolans disbanded, Linda Nolan embarked on a solo career at Maggie May's cabaret show on Blackpool's Central Pier. This show became a staple of the local entertainment scene, running for nearly a decade. Linda's talents were not confined to cabaret; she also graced the stage of the Grand Theatre in Blackpool. Moreover, she played the role of Mrs. Johnstone in Willy Russell's acclaimed musical, Blood Brothers, in London's West End.
Linda Nolan's presence was felt deeply in Blackpool, where she was considered an integral part of the town's showbusiness DNA. Her contribution to the entertainment community was invaluable, and her passing at the age of 65, following a long battle with cancer, left a void in the hearts of many. Her sister Bernie also succumbed to cancer in 2013, adding another layer of sorrow to the family's story.
The town mourned Linda's passing with a funeral held at the Grand Theatre, uniting Blackpool's entertainment community in grief. A blue plaque was unveiled at the Cliffs Hotel to commemorate The Nolans' enduring connection to Blackpool. This gesture highlighted the lasting impact Linda and her family had on the town.
