A recall of 500,000 LG electric stoves has been issued following safety concerns that have led to multiple fires, injuries, and property damage. The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall, which affects units sold over the past decade at major retailers including Best Buy, Costco, Lowe's, and Home Depot. This decisive action comes in response to reports of more than 28 fires across the United States, resulting in at least eight injuries and three tragic pet deaths.
The models affected are LG Slide-In and Freestanding Ranges with front-mounted knobs that can be inadvertently turned on, posing a significant fire risk. The stove models involved in the recall include LDE4411ST, LDE4413ST, LDE4413BD, LSE4611ST, LSE4611BD, LSE4613ST, LSE4613BD, LSEL6337D, LSEL6337F, LSEL6331F, LSEL6333F, LSEL6333D, LSEL6335D, LSEL6335F, LTE4815BM, LTE4815BD, LTE4815ST, LRE4215ST, and LTEL7337F.
This recall highlights the importance of addressing product safety issues promptly to prevent further damage. So far, the fires linked to these stoves have caused an estimated $340,000 in property damage. In response to these incidents, LG Electronics has committed to providing consumers with a warning label and instructions on utilizing the stove's Lock Out/Control Lock function. This feature allows users to disable the knobs when not in use, effectively reducing the risk of accidental ignition.
Consumers who own one of the affected models are urged to take immediate action. They can contact LG directly at 800-399-3265 or via email at lgrange.recall@lge.com for more information. Additionally, a dedicated website has been set up where consumers can request a free warning sticker and detailed instructions on how to properly use the Control Lock or Lock Out feature.
