NewJeans, the promising K-pop band renowned for their unique blend of 1990s R&B and pop melodies, finds itself embroiled in a legal battle with their record label, Ador. Formed in 2022, the band, consisting of members Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein, has been accused by Ador of attempting to secure independent contracts without the label's consent. This accusation has led Ador to take legal action against the band in Seoul, South Korea.
The conflict between NewJeans and Ador escalates amid claims from the band that their contracts are invalid. Allegations of bullying, harassment, and subterfuge at Ador have surfaced, leading NewJeans to publicly voice their grievances. The band asserts that Ador deliberately undermined their careers, a claim denied by the label. Despite the turmoil, NewJeans continues to connect with fans through a new Instagram account named "jeanzforfree," where they host regular live-streams.
The legal proceedings could extend over several years if the case goes to trial. Ador, aiming to uphold the existing contracts that run until 2027, emphasizes the potential risks posed by unapproved independent activities.

The band’s discord with Ador reportedly intensified following the alleged forced departure of their mentor, Min Hee-Jin, by Hybe. The outcome of this legal battle could set a precedent impacting contractual agreements in K-pop.
If the court rules in favor of NewJeans and finds fault with Hybe's actions, the band members may have the opportunity to exit their contracts while retaining their name. This possibility adds another layer of complexity to an already intricate case.
