The National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) has unveiled its highly anticipated 2025 Kitchen Trends Report, offering a glimpse into the future of kitchen design. The report, which draws insights from over 500 industry professionals, including designers, architects, and contractors, highlights key trends that are expected to dominate kitchen spaces in the coming years. Among these trends are an emphasis on natural materials, clever use of color, and innovative design elements aimed at enhancing both aesthetics and functionality.
A notable trend identified in the report is the preference for white oak as the wood type of choice, with 59% of respondents endorsing its use. This preference aligns with the growing appeal for natural materials in kitchen design. Additionally, wood grain faces are set to gain popularity, with 61% of industry professionals predicting their widespread adoption in upcoming projects.
Lighting plays a critical role in the kitchen of the future, as evidenced by the report’s revelation that large windows will be installed in 67% of kitchens. This design choice aims to flood spaces with natural light, creating an airy and inviting atmosphere. Complementing this trend is the prevailing choice of colors for kitchen spaces. Green emerges as the most popular, selected by 76% of respondents, followed closely by blue at 63%, brown at 56%, and white at 50%.
Functionality is also taking center stage in kitchen design, with innovative sink designs featuring built-in cutting boards, drying racks, and strainers. A significant 83% of respondents support this multifunctional approach. Additionally, matching dishwasher finishes with cabinet faces is expected in 79% of kitchens, contributing to a cohesive and polished look.
Another trend gaining traction is the concealment of pantries behind cabinet doors or panels, a design favored by 87% of respondents. This approach not only maintains a seamless kitchen aesthetic but also promotes a clutter-free environment. The biophilic trend continues to influence design choices, with a focus on showcasing natural elements like wood in cabinetry.
Retro styles are making a comeback, with bright colors and earth tones from the 1970s being embraced by 52% of professionals surveyed. These nostalgic elements add a touch of personality and warmth to contemporary kitchen spaces. Furthermore, the demand for hidden appliances and concealed spaces is on the rise, allowing homeowners to maintain a clean and streamlined look.
