On April 30, Kamala Harris gave a searing indictment of President Donald Trump’s economic record. She framed her comments around the 20th anniversary gala for Emerge America in San Francisco. Harris’s comments were issued only a day after Trump himself tweeted out the news of his 100th day in office. In doing so, the Vice President expressed his deep alarm over a looming constitutional crisis. She stressed that the new administration is attempting to sow terror among the American public. She stressed that this has the potential to destroy the checks-and-balances—which are at the core of American democracy—by removing them from the equation.
Friends, that is called a constitutional crisis, This, Harris said, was to illustrate her fight against the administration’s attacks on education and freedoms, and dangerous attacks on basic rights and freedoms. She elaborated on this point, saying, “And that is a crisis that will eventually impact everyone because it would mean that the rules that protect our fundamental rights and freedoms that ensure each of us has a say about how our government works will no longer matter.”
Harris’s comments are in light of the Commerce Department’s recent data. This new data confirms that the economy went through its worst quarter in three years. Despite this, President Trump blamed his predecessor, Joe Biden, for the economic downturn and insisted that his tariffs would lead to an economic “boom.” Harris made the case that Trump’s reckless tariffs are hurting American workers and families. These tariffs are forcing up the cost of everyday staples.
Instead of a noble administration working to spread America’s finest principles far and wide, we are experiencing the full-scale repudiation of those principles, Harris remarked. She cautioned that Trump’s tariffs could be driving the country into a recession. The policies being pushed by this administration have deeply harmful effects. Americans from every political background understand this.

Plenty of speculation has her looking at a third run for the White House, or even mounting a full-court press to become California’s next governor.
“Please always remember this country is ours,” Harris concluded in her address, calling on citizens to reclaim their voice in governance and remain vigilant about their rights.
