Josh Allen’s New Contract Sets Historic Milestone

Josh Allen, the Buffalo Bills' star quarterback, has signed a landmark contract extension that cements his status as one of the NFL's elite players. The six-year, $330 million deal extends through the 2030 season, with $250 million guaranteed, making it the largest guaranteed total in NFL history. This extension catapults Allen from the 14th-highest to tied for second in average annual value among quarterbacks, now standing at $55 million.

Allen, who was the seventh pick in 2018 out of Wyoming, has consistently demonstrated exceptional skill and leadership. This past season, he became the first player in 21 seasons to win MVP without being selected first-team All-Pro. He joins an illustrious group as the third player in franchise history to receive the MVP honor, alongside Thurman Thomas and O.J. Simpson.

"Josh Allen's leadership, his consistent leadership, was the biggest reason why we did what we did this season. So, anybody that tries to say otherwise, I know better," – coach Sean McDermott.

Allen's performance on the field has been nothing short of historic. He has accounted for at least 40 touchdowns, either passing or rushing, in five consecutive seasons—a streak unmatched in NFL history. With 65 rushing touchdowns since entering the league in 2018, he leads all quarterbacks by a significant margin, with Jalen Hurts trailing by ten touchdowns.

In the 2024 season alone, Allen recorded 28 touchdown passes, 12 rushing touchdowns, and limited himself to just six interceptions. This achievement made him the first player in NFL history to tally at least 25 touchdown passes and 10 rushing touchdowns with fewer than 10 interceptions in a single season. His improved ball security was evident as he posted the lowest turnover count of his career, committing only eight turnovers throughout the season.

Allen's career touchdown tally stands at an impressive 260 via passing or rushing, a record for any player in their first seven NFL seasons. Despite these achievements, Allen remains focused on winning a Super Bowl. Coming off his second AFC Championship Game appearance and heading into his eighth season, he is eager to secure his first Super Bowl appearance.

"We're going to continue to turn every stone over and cross the T's, dot the I's and do whatever we can to try to bring a Lombardi back here to Western New York," – Josh Allen.

However, Allen's postseason journey has faced hurdles. He holds a 0-4 record against the Kansas City Chiefs and fellow quarterback Patrick Mahomes in playoff matchups. Yet, with his proven track record and leadership qualities, the Bills remain optimistic about their prospects moving forward.

General manager Brandon Beane expressed his admiration for Allen's contributions to the team and his potential for future success.

"I love Josh and so proud of what he's done, and so, I could be here all day talking about how great he is and what he's done for our team and where he belongs in the pecking order of all that stuff," – general manager Brandon Beane.
