Inter Miami Faces Hefty Loss Against Minnesota Amid Criticism

Inter Miami, the Major League Soccer team launched by David Beckham in 2018, experienced a challenging match against Minnesota United on Sunday. It looked just like that night in St. Paul when we returned home after the pounding of 6-2. It is Lionel Messi’s largest margin of defeat as a member of the national team. This loss brings Inter Miami’s record to 6 wins, 2 losses, and 3 draws, totaling 21 points, just behind Minnesota’s 22 points.

Inter Miami’s head coach Javier Mascherano welcomed the challenge of coaching a professional soccer team. He understood the intense scrutiny that usually accompanies the position. He recognized that tough criticism can help make for a stronger outcome. As he noted, constructive criticisms are frequently painfully reworded to read like brutal assaults.

“The reality is that you have to learn to live with criticism, and above all, on how to capitalize on it. There’s constructive criticism that makes you see things. Others [types of criticism] aren’t very useful, and they have to do with simply attacking.” – Javier Mascherano

Messi was able to find the back of the net even in defeat, further cementing his first-ever gold as a takeaway. The team is now set to face the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday, where they may see the return of Luis Suárez to the lineup.

Even international soccer superstar David Beckham spoke out on his dismay with the harmful attitudes directed towards his now team. He didn’t take long to respond to an @MNUnitedFC social media post mocking Inter Miami. That post blew up under the carefully chosen title Pink Phony Club. Beckham stated,

“Show a little respect, be elegant in triumph.” – David Beckham

The ongoing rivalry has intensified with Minnesota’s social media posts, including one featuring a banner reading: “History over hype, culture over cash.” Beckham, for his part, hasn’t taken kindly to this growing sentiment.

It’s Inter Miami’s only other loss this season – although the defeat came against FC Dallas. As they look ahead to the match against San Jose Earthquakes, the team aims to bounce back and regain their momentum in the league.
