India Tops the Charts as 2025’s Premier Solo Travel Destination

In a recent survey, 76% of respondents expressed their openness to traveling alone internationally in the next three years. The allure of solo travel is on the rise, with India emerging as the top destination for those seeking such adventures. According to a new report by Kensington, a private guided luxury travel service, India has captivated solo travelers with its rich history and culture, placing it at the forefront of solo travel destinations for 2025.

The report, which analyzed data from affluent travelers in 2024 and two external surveys conducted with Opinium Research and Dig Insight, highlights India as a country that has long been on the bucket list of many. It boasts an “alluring depth of history and culture that many travelers dream of for decades.” Anit Singh, Kensington's destination expert for the Indian subcontinent, noted the country's diverse attractions.

"From the vibrant streets of Jaipur to the tranquil backwaters of Kerala, India's diversity ensures that every traveler finds something extraordinary." – Anit Singh, Kensington's destination expert for the Indian subcontinent

Italy follows closely behind as the No. 2 favorite destination for solo travelers. While Italy is often seen as a popular locale, the report suggests that traveling solo in the European country often fulfills a unique personal dream for visitors. Italy is renowned for its iconic landmarks, although it seems there was an error mentioning Italy's landmarks among India's attractions.

The Kensington report aligns with trend reports from Expedia and Booking.com, which reveal a shift in vacationers' preferences toward less crowded and lesser-known destinations. Approximately 63% of travelers plan to visit off-the-beaten-track locations on their next trip. This trend reflects a growing desire for unique experiences away from mainstream tourist hotspots.

"Solo travelers are increasingly choosing destinations with deep cultural significance and unique landscapes balanced with independence and seamless, personalized service." – Matt Cammaert, Senior Vice President of Marketing

The top 10 countries for solo travel in 2025 include India, Italy, Japan, Egypt, Thailand, Australia, Spain, Iceland, France, and New Zealand. Each offers distinct experiences catering to the adventurous spirit of solo travelers.
