In a thrilling conclusion to the Gladiators 2025 competition, Amanda Wah and Joe Fishburn emerged as champions after a series of intense challenges. More than 3,200 die-hard fans turned out to fill the grand final venue to the brim with environmentally conscious fervor. Wah, a gym owner from Warrington, beat supply teacher Aneila Afsar from Manchester in the exciting Eliminator showdown. At the same time, Fishburn, a former repertoire coach at the British Olympic Association, triumphed over Mus Dumbuya, an east London youth worker.
Afsar had a 1.5-second advantage for the last challenge. Fortunately, Wah’s blistering speed and competitive spirit carried her across the finish line first! Wah expressed her gratitude and excitement post-competition.
“That one’s for you, Mum. This has been the best experience of my life – unbelievable.” – Amanda Wah
Wah acknowledged the competitiveness of her opponent, stating, “Everyone has been exceptional, especially Aneila who was a great contender.” Her respect for her fellow competitors even followed her into the Gladiator arena, where she would later commend the competition’s Gladiators for their professionalism.
In the men’s portion of the competition, Fishburn went up against Dumbuya with a six-second head start in the final race. In a jaw-dropping exhibition of talent, Fishburn clobbered the course record with a blistering run of 0.55 seconds. Looking back on his storied journey, he told us how honored he is to have the opportunity.
“We were in an amazing final, and I felt like I already won coming into this process but obviously it’s always nice to complete the whole thing and take the win.” – Joe Fishburn
Fishburn paid tribute to Dumbuya, saying, “Mus is an amazing opponent, contender, friend, everything he does is so amazing and it was an honour to be in the final with him.”
Both champions put their wins on the line for their families. Fishburn turned emotional speaking about his grandmother Christine, who’s going to have the trophy to put on her mantelpiece. He publicly thanked her for making such a big difference in his life.
“I never had a father figure present and she’s done everything for me. I hope you’re proud.” – Joe Fishburn
This season of Gladiators is a second (or possibly third) act for the re-popularized spectacle on the BBC, after returning last year. Finlay Anderson & Marie-Louise Nicholson were crowned 2024 champions. Following this successful season, Gladiators will have a Live Tour that will debut across UK arenas later this year.
