It was a cherry-red 2008 Tesla Roadster, launched into space on February 6, 2018, by SpaceX as part of a dramatic publicity stunt. This terrestrial vehicle, perched atop a Falcon Heavy rocket, marked the rocket's maiden voyage from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, capturing the world's attention with its audacious journey.
The Tesla Roadster's launch was not a typical space mission. Instead of a scientific payload, the Falcon Heavy rocket carried this electric sports car to demonstrate its capability to transport heavy objects into orbit. The vehicle carried a mannequin named Starman, dressed in a stylish white spacesuit, cruising through the cosmos.
