Daniel O’Donnell Takes Extended Break from Touring for Health Reasons

Daniel O’Donnell, the iconic 63-year-old crooner from County Donegal, is retiring from the concert circuit. For now, though, his attention must be on the positive return to health. The late, great man and friend to all was born on the Donegal island that’s home to Kincasslagh. For more than 40 years now, he has thrilled listeners in the world of Irish music with his vibrant voice and emotional performances.

O’Donnell has released more than 45 studio and live albums throughout his career, showcasing his versatility and commitment to music. He has presented his own television series on UTV and RTÉ, with his wife, Majella, at his side. They married in 2002, having met on vacation in Tenerife three years prior.

O’Donnell’s spokesperson said in a statement that the decision to cease performing was not an easy one. The spokesperson stated, “This decision was not made lightly, but it is driven by the health challenges he has faced over the years, particularly with allergies and recurrent chest infections while touring extensively.”

While O’Donnell’s break is significant, it is important to note that it is “not a retirement but rather a temporary break” as he focuses on recharging and recovering. He plans to perform at only a select few shows in 2026, including two confirmed events: one in 2025 and another on Gertrude Byrne’s Mediterranean Cruise scheduled for September 2026.
