Daisy Sequerra, a 21-year-old dancer, is making waves in the performing arts world. Having trained at the Sheffield Performing Arts group since the tender age of three, Daisy is now living her dream on the National Theatre stage. Her journey has been marked by determination, a strong sense of self-confidence, and an undeniable star quality that her tutors noticed early on.
Daisy's early training began under the tutelage of Cops Copley, who recognized her potential immediately.
"It was the way she held her skirt out and stretched her feet out with her head held high," said Copley.
Copley further described Daisy's presence, noting,
"You can't take your eyes off her."
These reflections highlight the innate talent and poise Daisy exhibited even as a young dancer.
Despite her talent, Daisy resisted the traditional routes to the West End. Instead, she chose to carve her own path, appearing in notable productions such as the UK tour of Annie at the Sheffield Lyceum and playing Veruca Salt in the West End production of Warner Bros' Musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Her choice to stay connected to her roots is evident as she continues to live between Sheffield and London.
Daisy attributes much of her drive and determination to the competitive dynamic with her two older sisters, Lottie and Millie. Her mother, Sally Sequerra, recalls Daisy's eagerness from a young age, stating,
"She was too young at first but she watched Lottie in class through the window and was desperate to get involved."
Daisy’s path also included classes at the Northern Ballet in Leeds, which further honed her skills. However, she remained selective about where she trained, famously stating,
"There are amazing dancing colleges in London but they never felt right for me."
Her decision to pursue roles that resonated with her personally led her to the National Theatre's production of Ballet Shoes, a role she cherishes deeply.
"I loved the story growing up. I always related to Posy as I have two older sisters myself," Daisy shared.
