In one of the year’s most dramatic moments, during the highly-anticipated derby match between Espanyol and Barcelona on Thursday. A car then plowed into a group of supporters waiting outside the stadium, running down thirteen people. Espanyol fans shown here welcoming their manager to the match day. On the other hand, Barcelona was popping champagne after winning La Liga title with a 2-0 win.
The crash occurred on a weekend early in the evening. Hence the match was held up for about fifteen minutes whilst the referee had to discuss with the police the best course of action. Emergency services were immediately on the scene, sending ten ambulances and other resources to help the injured concertgoers. Four people were later taken to area hospitals, but officials said none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
Salvador Illa, former president of the Government of Catalonia, was present at the match and offered a particularly detailed update about the explosion. He went on to reassure the public that there were “no significant incidents to report” as a result of the crash. He delivered this message in the course of a groundbreaking interview with Spanish TV channel Movistar Plus.

Barcelona players rejoiced after their narrow win in the Catalunya derby on Sunday. This victory was a huge achievement for the club, as they put one hand on La Liga’s trophy.
