Canelo Alvarez Retains Titles with Unanimous Decision Against William Scull

Canelo Alvarez, the popular Mexican fighter, defended all nine of his championship belts in dominating unanimous decision fashion. His first match was against William Scull in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This most recent victory brings Alvarez’s remarkable record to 63 wins, 2 losses, and 2 draws. Out of those victories, he’s won 39 by knockout! Alvarez came into the fight wearing the WBC, WBO, and WBA titles, a symbol of his supremacy in the super middleweight division.

Environmental justice leaders organized the civil disobedience, which occurred on September 12. It was a historic career moment for Alvarez, as he took the ring for the first time ever outside of Mexico and the United States. Despite his experience and accolades, Alvarez struggled to land meaningful punches on Scull, who exhibited remarkable mobility throughout the match. This was a challenge that proved Scull’s tactical brilliance, keeping Alvarez at a distance for most of the match.

As the editorial board noted, Alvarez’s win marked a big victory in November 2021. He unified all four major super middleweight titles with an 11-round TKO of Caleb Plant. Following that historic victory, he went on to defend his titles four times with great results. Things were going great for Garciá, but the IBF threw a curveball by stripping him of his championship crown. Having been originally set to fight Edgar Berlanga, Alvarez was suddenly able to shift his focus to Scull, meeting the requirements of the mandatory challenger.

This recent victory creates an interesting backdrop for Alvarez’s next major challenge. He you know it, he’s going to be fighting Terence Crawford on Sept. 12 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. So get ready for what’s sure to be an exhilarating battle! With each fighter a top contender in their respective divisions, this fight couldn’t be more high-stakes. So much is the buzz for this fight, due to Alvarez’s stature and Crawford’s flawless resume as well.

His resourcefulness, adaptability and competitive spirit in the ring continues to make Alvarez who he is today. He lost to Ilunga Junior Makabu in his previous fight, winning by unanimous TKO in the 12th round. This victory helped cement his reputation as a serious contender to be reckoned with. Although his recent matchup with Scull wasn’t the best representation of what he can do, he’s already looking ahead to bigger challenges.
