The Knicks were understandably thrilled, pulling off a huge comeback after blowing a tough Game 3 loss. It got a humbling defeat in return after having once led the best-of-five series 2-0. Brunson’s impressive 39 points on 25 shots, coupled with 12 assists, underscored his pivotal role in the team’s success.
Brunson opened his postgame news conference by offering prayers for Jayson Tatum, the Boston Celtics star who suffered an injury during a game. He emphasized the importance of the victory for the Knicks, stating, “I think [tonight] was a sense of urgency, desperation. Knowing that we had a great opportunity against a really good team.” His leadership on the court was a mark of the excellence he displayed. He managed the Knicks’ 88-85 lead as they headed into the fourth quarter with aplomb.
In the third period alone, Brunson scored 18 points, showcasing his scoring prowess and ability to carry his team during crucial moments. Brunson was not celebrating too much after such a monumental win, as she was still aware of the challenges she faces. He noted that the team looked “subconsciously content” after taking a 2–0 series lead. Perhaps this attitude contributed to their defeat in the first place. He expressed pride in how the team responded in Game 4, stating, “The way we responded is what I’m most proud of. Sticking together. Most of all, not quitting.”
When the final buzzer went off, it was Brunson who had to gather his jubilant teammates back in line. Tait conveyed an even more powerful counterpoint message of humility and caution. He cautioned them to remain mission driven and not become distracted by their recent victory.
