Banksy’s Iconic Goat Mural Removed from London Building Amid Renovations

An artwork by the renowned street artist Banksy has been removed from the side of a building in west London. The mural, depicting a goat, was located on Kew Green, Kew, and marked the beginning of a series of animal-themed artworks Banksy created across London last summer. The removal came as part of scheduled refurbishment works by Boss & Co., the building's owner, who had previously secured planning permission for these improvements.

The Fine Art Restoration Company, appointed by Boss & Co., is currently safeguarding the artwork. However, they have not disclosed whether the piece will return to Kew Green or any other location within London. A representative for Banksy has declined to comment on the situation, leaving the future of the mural uncertain. Despite its removal, the artwork's significance remains acknowledged by both the owners and the community.

"The owners recognise the cultural significance of the goat, a piece by the renowned British artist Banksy, and appreciate the community's interest in and affection for the artwork." – The Fine Art Restoration Company

The decision to remove the mural was driven by the necessity of refurbishment works deemed essential for the long-term preservation of the property. Boss & Co. proceeded with the removal without consulting Banksy, as planning permission had already been in place prior to the artist's intervention. This decision underscores the prioritization of structural improvements over artistic considerations.

The artwork, described by The Fine Art Restoration Company as being under the care of "specialist art conservators with expertise in preserving street art," remains in an undisclosed location. The lack of confirmation from Banksy or his representatives regarding the removal adds to the uncertainty surrounding the mural's future.
