Amber Heard Celebrates Birth of Twins in Heartfelt Mother’s Day Announcement

On what was Mother’s Day in the United States this past weekend, Amber Heard posted an emotional Instagram tribute. We all rejoiced when she announced her twins were here! The 39-year-old actress shared her joy with her followers, revealing the names of her newborns: a daughter named Agnes and a son named Ocean. This announcement follows the birth of her first daughter, Oonagh, in 2021. Yet personally, it is a significant milestone in Heard’s journey as a mother.

Heard announced her joy at having finally welcomed her twins, saying that she had “worked to create” her family for decades. The actress and advocate for her roles in The Rum Diary, Drive Angry, Zombieland, and Aquaman. Her private family life has particularly drawn the public’s fascination. This focus increased particularly during her highly publicized marriage with actor Johnny Depp from 2015 to 2016.

Heard’s volatile, abusive relationship with Depp led to their 2016 divorce, but generated widespread attention decades later with two separate, high-dollar defamation suits following their marriage. She accused Depp of domestic abuse, while he subsequently sued her for defamation over an opinion piece she wrote for the Washington Post. Even though the article did not mention Depp by name, it painted his former wife Heard as a domestic abuse victim.

Amber Heard won all three of her counterclaims against Johnny Depp. Ultimately, she was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages. She was ordered to pay Depp over $5 million in damages for defaming him throughout the short course of the US trial. This decision exposed her personal life to even greater public scrutiny.

Reflecting on her motherhood journey, Heard remarked, “Becoming a mother by myself and on my own terms despite my own fertility challenges has been the most humbling experience of my life.” She emphasized the importance of acknowledging diverse paths to motherhood, stating, “To all the moms, wherever you are today and however you got here, my dream family and I are celebrating with you.”

In her Mother’s Day post, Heard went deep about the pressure that society puts on women to create a family and be the “perfect mom.” She noted, “I now appreciate how radical it is for us as women to think about one of the most fundamental parts of our destinies in this way.”
