Trump Tax Bill Faces Challenges as Support Wavers

President Donald Trump’s push to jam his tax bill through was dealt major blows this week, even if the Administration’s sunny predictions would have you believe otherwise. On Tuesday, Trump visited the U.S. Capitol to personally advocate for the legislation, which seeks to make permanent the tax cuts introduced in 2017. But support from key Republican factions, especially the SALT Caucus, is still doubtful.

In a statement regarding the bill’s progress, Trump expressed confidence, stating, “We’re doing really well, it’s very close.” He knew the hard work lay on the other side. He acknowledged that he doesn’t expect the controversial bill to be completed today. I think that would be impossible to do in today’s environment. “The runway is short today,” Maryland U.S. Rep. Andy Harris said. He issued this proclamation after hosting Trump and several other members of the House Freedom Caucus at the White House to discuss strategy. Leadership, he said, would have to decide what to do next with the bill.

Here are some of the notable provisions included in their proposed tax bill to attract wider appeal. Among these are their plans to raise the SALT cap and eliminate taxes on tips.
