Former Teacher Faces Charges for Alleged Relationship with Student

Raised in Virginia Beach, Natalia Wright, 31, a former special needs teacher from Norfolk, Virginia, has been charged with felonies including sex trafficking. She faces charges of “fondling by a person in position of trust” for supposedly having sexual relations with a pupil. She vividly lived through the historical events while attending Lewisburg High School. In this case, that school happens to be in Olive Branch, Mississippi—located roughly 30 miles southeast of Memphis proper.

According to court documents, Wright’s primary crime appears to be having “licentious sexual attitudes.” These charges are for an individual less than 18 years of age. Wright confessed to making sexual contact with the pupil dozens of times while giving the personal instruction. This confession was recorded by her husband on an audio device that he had placed before notifying law enforcement of the incident.

On April 21, other witnesses reported that Wright started flirting with the student’s in a Taco Bell parking lot. They caught them canoodling in a church parking lot. These sightings were used to support the charges against her.

Wright’s arrest last week, during which time she was arrested and released on a $200,000 bond. She will next appear at the DeSoto County Justice Court for a preliminary hearing. Save the date for June 6 at 9 a.m.

The case has attracted national attention partly because of the shocking nature of the allegations and Wright’s identity as an educator. For now, the community will continue to watch and wait as the legal process continues to play out.
