Simon Daniel, an 18-year-old freshman at California State University, Fullerton, drowned during a fraternity weekend getaway, in a tragic accident. This tragic accident at Lake Havasu on May 17th. Daniel was larger than life, with a huge personality and love for music and life itself. His tragic death has left a profound impact on his fraternity brothers and the entire greater community.
The tragedy happened when Daniel first jumped in the water with three other pledge brothers and two visiting sorority sisters. While they were swimming one day in the lake, a surprise wave knocked Daniel over, sending him below the water’s surface. Member of the Sigma Pi fraternity immediately jumped into the water and swam to save him. Sadly, their activism came up short.
Affecting first responders emergency response teams immediately jumped into action when 911 calls began coming in detailing the scene along Interstate 10. Divers started looking for Daniel on the night of May 17. When night settled in, the expert search was called off and continued the next day. Sadly, Simon Daniel’s body was found on 18 May.

Simon Daniel was not only a conscientious student and helpful fraternity brother, but he was considered “the heart of the fraternity.” His fraternity brothers remembered him affectionately for being authentic, always carefree and happy, and the person who illuminated every room with his extraordinary smile.

The sudden loss of such a vibrant young man is still being felt among all those who knew him. Simon’s mother, along with a loving community of friends and fraternal brothers, is mourning his untimely loss. For now, they are all together, mourning their loss during this sad time.
Community Grieves
Her tragic death at Lake Havasu, where she was vacationing with friends, has caused shock and grief among Simon’s friends and family members. All are devastated and heartbroken, as many try to come to terms with the unexpected passing of someone who filled their lives with laughter and love.
Marilyn Taylor, a close friend, shared her sentiments about another recent loss in the community, stating, “Tanner was the funny guy, always smiling, tons of friends, charismatic, responsible and a really good person. This loss is more than we can bear at this time.”
