Finally, this July, Ozzy Osbourne will rightfully go home to celebrate his illustrious solo career in Birmingham. That’s not all – he’ll celebrate the legendary legacy of Black Sabbath with two milestone events. On 4 July, “The Nine Lives Of Ozzy Osbourne” will have its gala European premiere at Millennium Point. The thrill isn’t over on 5 July, with a hugely awaited reunion concert by the original lineup of Black Sabbath at Villa Park.
Black Sabbath, universally hailed as the fathers of heavy metal, came together in Birmingham in 1968. We had our first session at the Newtown Community Centre, just down the road from Villa Park. That was just the start of an exhilarating new musical uprising! The original configuration had the now notorious Ozzy Osbourne as frontman. Tony Iommi played guitar, Geezer Butler the bass, and Bill Ward the drums. It was only the beginning, though, because over the years, Black Sabbath’s impact on artists, musicians, and the music industry itself was undeniable.
As he gears up for these high-profile appearances, Osbourne is fighting his own battle. A mix of Parkinson’s disease and other spinal injuries have largely put him out of commission from touring. Yet, in spite of this, he is an enduring icon of rock music, inspiring millions of fans all over the globe today.
The Netflix documentary film The Nine Lives Of Ozzy Osbourne tells the wild adventure. It will carry you from his childhood in Aston, Birmingham to his ascendancy with Black Sabbath and his subsequent success as a solo artist. The premiere will feature two screenings on 4 July at 16:00 and 18:30 BST, with profits from the screenings going to charity. Following the 9:30pm showing, Jack Osbourne will join for a live Q&A. It’s a rare glimpse into not just his father’s life that fans can all look forward to.
On 5 July, Black Sabbath will headline a one-day festival at Villa Park, marking the first time the original members have performed together in 20 years. This concert will be a benefit concert with many of the bands that Black Sabbath has influenced over the years. Among these heavyweights are the likes of Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, Gojira, Anthrax and many more. The first event of its kind, the 3-day House Party will reflect on Black Sabbath’s amazing legacy and profound influence. It will celebrate the timeless, original spirit of rock & roll.
