He surprised fans with an outdoor performance in Sheffield on Sunday. His event provided a platform for such impressive support for emerging artists. The Halifax-born pop star entertained fans for three hours outside the town hall, captivating the audience alongside TikTok sensation DJ AG. This event celebrated Sheeran’s commitment to nurturing young talent, further emphasized by his foundation’s recent three-year funding award to TRACKS, a local music initiative.
Just a few months ago, Ed Sheeran stopped at TRACKS. He saw firsthand the organization’s amazing impact in advocating for music education and providing opportunities for young people. This artist visit gave birth to the surprise gig, which was meant to highlight the talents of emerging artists, including those from TRACKS. During the event, Sheeran performed a new single titled “Spotlight,” featuring seven students from TRACKS, highlighting their contributions to the music scene.
Artists, such as Max and Jayden, who opened for Sheeran, took to social media to thank the “Shivers” singer for his advocacy and encouragement. They remembered him being “so supportive,” highlighting how his support made them feel included and welcomed into the world of music.
“You get nervous at the start when you are with big people like this, but it actually feels quite good to be doing this,” Jayden said.
Sheffield City Council leader Tom Hunt Sheeran’s show was “brilliant,” according to an ecstatic Hunt. “This just helps cement Sheffield’s reputation as a music city bursting at the seams with talent and creativity,” he said.
“It really underscores the fact that we are a music city with an incredible pedigree of artists coming out of the city, more importantly, that we are bursting with talent,” Hunt stated.
The effects of Sheeran’s surprise cameo went far beyond the stage. Other young artists, such as Blue Bax, made their feelings clear about the pop star, calling him an inspiration among many other honorifics. Sheeran fan and teacher Tom Bax, who organized the trip, told Fox 9 that the experience was “a huge deal” for all the young musicians.
DJ AG, who performed with Sheeran onstage also offered his take on what the evening was all about. “It’s not about me, I’m just a facilitator showcasing talent, trying to help, do my part, giving it everything and hopefully everyone had a good time,” he remarked.
Onstage, Ed brought two across the board peace sign and wore a rad white b-ball cut @cooked128 t-pot with black trim! The energy in the air could not be more electric! Max described the experience as “insane,” stating that “words cannot describe how good it was, it was just mad.”
