Donald Trump has ordered a military parade to take place in Washington, D.C. It’s set for June 14 to coincide with the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary. This hearing will happen to fall on Trump’s 79th birthday. This dream has been a top priority for Trump since first taking office. Yet it is expected to cost taxpayers a staggering $45 million.
The parade will be a glorified display of U.S. military might. Look for 6,600 soldiers, 50 military aircraft and 150 vehicles on the move! It’s gonna be an amazing show out there! The campaign will promote the Army’s storied, professional history, its traditions, and the 245th birthday of the Army on June 14, 1775.
To get ready for the parade, upward of 5,000 service members will descend on the nation’s capital. This year, they’ll be coming in only a few days before the event starts. That means those service members will be living in the General Services Administration building or Agriculture Department building. Or at least, they’ll be stuck there for the whole length of their visit.
Despite the backlash, Trump has repeatedly insisted that the cost of the parade is worth it. On the financial side he commented: “It’s peanuts, compared to the value of doing that.”
That large, ostentatious military parade that was originally to be held in November 2018? Worries about the high price tag and logistics raised concerns and led to this decision. This year’s event has significant momentum and support behind it. Army spokeswoman Ruth Castro has confirmed the plans and details with regard to the parade.
The parade is set to be perhaps the largest single event ever held in Washington, D.C. It will be the target of significant public and media attention, especially since it will be occurring a momentous anniversary for the Army and a personal anniversary for Trump.
