The latest trend in interior design is steering towards furniture with curves and organic shapes, as acclaimed designers emphasize their aesthetic and functional benefits. Homeowners and design professionals are both excitedly getting on board with this movement. Widely considered an exhibition with long-term appeal.
Jason Saft, a home stager at Staged to Sell Home, highlights the advantages of incorporating curved furniture into living spaces. He believes that such pieces can transform a room, stating, “Curved furniture is an ideal way to add a sense of movement into the home.”
Candace Griffin, a Chicago-based interior designer and founder of Candace Mary Interiors, agrees with this perspective. She loves that the curved pieces help form intimate circles of conversation. Griffin explains, “They make a space feel more organic and inviting.”
The trend is perhaps most widely popularized by Drew Michael Scott, an L.A.-based designer and influencer. Scott has always favored furniture with curves, stating, “There’s something about the way it flows into a space—less rigid, more adaptable to how you live and move within a room.” He proposes that homeowners can get on board with this new trend without spending a fortune. Curvy forms such as throw pillows, ottomans, or other fashionable details are easily incorporated.
Both Griffin and Saft have collaborated on a design project, showcasing their shared vision of incorporating curved elements into interior spaces. Photos of their work, captured by Francisco Rosario DDReps, depict how well-curved pieces can harmonize with various other furniture styles.
Despite these challenges, Griffin points out that the secret to incorporating more curved furniture successfully all comes down to balance. The trick is to use a wee bit of balance—you wouldn’t want everything to be too catenary. Incorporating in more structured, angular elements balances out the aesthetic and anchors the area, allowing for a more unified look overall,” she recommends. After all, curves are beautiful. They must be set against traditional forms to maintain the element of surprise.
As for promoting his own work, Saft recently launched an Instagram account to continue the effort.
