Donald Trump is only days away from his 100-day presidency. According to the latest polls, they claim to find him 20 points underwater with his approval ratings. The data makes it clear that Americans are growing fearful of his radical unilateral measures to entirely remake the government. As a result of two-thirds of the electorate expressing dissatisfaction with his unprecedented mismanagement of the presidency, Trump’s presidency continues to face increasing trials.
Based on three recent national and statewide surveys, Trump’s approval rating hovers around 39% – 45% depending on the state. This is the lowest approval rating of any new president at this point in time in more than seventy years. This erosion of support is most visible among independent voters, with a stunning 58% of independents saying they’re not pleased with Trump’s leadership.
The polling data reflects a deepening discomfort on the part of Americans over Trump’s ability to navigate pressingly important matters. Fifty-two percent of U.S. adults still trust him to run the economy. There’s a catch that number is down by 13 points since December. His approval rating on handling immigration has fallen from 60% to 45%. This drop is unexpected given that immigration was a hallmark of his campaign.
The partisan optics of the divide are just as impressive. Republicans largely remain positive about Trump’s presidency, while Democrats are extremely negative. This polarization represents just the latest example of how further divided the American electorate became during Trump’s presidency.
Voters are souring on Trump’s handling of the economy at an alarming rate. Now they’re even challenging his handling of immigration, a primary issue upon which he campaigned most strongly during his White House run. As we can see, Americans are beginning to speak out as their sentiments start to shift. They express concern for his capacity to deliver on campaign pledges and doubt the impact of his policies.
