A tragic plane crash in Thailand has killed six police officers and several others. The dead including three of the pilots, one engineer, and two mechanics. The incident occurred at approximately 08:00 local time (01:00 GMT) on Friday, when the aircraft crashed into the water near Cha-am district, a popular coastal resort area located about 130 kilometers (80 miles) southwest of Bangkok.
The plane was on a collision course with homes, when, at the very last moment, the pilots pulled off a lifesaving maneuver that would prevent tragedy. In doing so, by pointing the aircraft out to the ocean, they were able to avoid more deaths. The airplane finally made impact with the water almost 100 meters from the shore, debris floating half-submerged in shallow water revealing the terrible crash site.
According to local police statements, local media coverage, ambulances were on the scene within six minutes of emergency responders being alerted. In footage from the crash site, people were shown wading out into the waters, trying to get to the downed plane. Thanks to the swift decision-making of the pilots, they were able to maneuver the aircraft to avoid hitting populated areas. Thanks to their immediate efforts, many more lives were saved.
In a statement, the Royal Thai Police have said they are deeply saddened by the death of their fellow officers.
