The Los Angeles Clippers pulled off an unbelievable 105-102 comeback victory against the Denver Nuggets on Monday night. This victory permitted them to tie their first-round playoff series. Kawhi Leonard was dominant, finishing with 39 points on 15-of-19 shooting—yeah, that’s good. His work won the day. They further highlighted his remarkable turnaround from being sidelined for the first 34 games of the season with knee problems.
Leonard’s performance was huge, specifically in the game’s final minutes. With just 37 seconds remaining, he executed a crucial steal of a Nikola Jokic pass, helping to maintain the Clippers’ lead. At the half, Leonard pictured above getting his pull-up three off with a little help from the buzzer, had already scored 21 points.
Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue praised Leonard’s role in the game, stating, “This is what he lives for, getting healthy for the playoffs.” Lue said it was extremely important to have a healthy Leonard. With no last-minute self-assurance, he added, “We know if we got a healthy Kawhi, we can win any series.”
Despite the team’s overall shooting struggles, with his teammates combining for only 39 percent from the field (26 of 66), Leonard stood out as a beacon of offensive efficiency. James Harden, another key player for the Clippers, noted, “It feels like he didn’t miss a shot,” underscoring Leonard’s dominant presence on the court.
So when Kawhi Leonard plays this well, it’s understandable if everyone’s feeling good and happy about it. “I just keep playing, try to stay in the zone no matter if I’m making or missing shots,” he stated. Both approaches have clearly paid off. He’s proven he can still be that guy, if only for flashes, impersonating the two-time Finals MVP we all remember him to be.
The Clippers’ comeback-stealing victory from the Nuggets in Denver ties the series up. Beyond that, it has provided them with home-court advantage over the Nuggets. As they prepare for Game 3, Leonard’s health and performance remain critical to the Clippers’ aspirations in this playoff run.
