The 2025 NFL Draft is just around the corner! So save the date for April 25, when the opening round begins. Analysts and T4 teams alike are excited! This year’s draft class is poised to be one of the more talented in recent memory particularly at wide receiver — so many good ones that they might dominate Day 2 of the draft.
One of those teams is the New York Giants, who currently sit in control of the ninth overall pick. So much for Cam Sanders speculation. That excitement only grew after his standout performance at his pro day back on April 4. This event took place later than usual due to scheduling conflicts at his school, leaving many to wonder if the Giants will seize the opportunity to draft him.
Should the Giants opt not to select Sanders with their top pick, they may explore options to trade back into the first round. This strategic move could allow them to secure the quarterback if they feel he is a valuable asset for their future.
At the same time, the Cleveland Browns remain at five and are similarly in search of their own passer. It’s been that long since the organization has drafted a quarterback in the first round, last taking one when they selected Tim Couch in 1999. Their past shows a dearth of first-round quarterback picks since then, with only five first-round QB selections since that period. With their choice this year, they can start to reshape their roster.
The Atlanta Falcons have been all over the news for publicly declaring their unwillingness to deal quarterback Kirk Cousins. They’re not closed to new offers if a compelling deal comes along. As teams finalize their strategies, the draft is expected to see significant movement among quarterbacks, highlighting a busy year for signal-callers.
For the most part, teams are making preparations for the draft. The Steelers, Jets, and Broncos are just three of the franchises that’ve recently dispatched their QB coaches to talk with North Dakota State’s Cam Miller. Miller figures to be a late round selection. That would indicate an abundance of talent at the position, relegating him deeper down the board.
The best talent might be in the wide receiver room. Only one college draft class was projected to have more than nine of them selected in the second round! Will Howard, a quarterback from Ohio State, has praised standout receiver Emeka Egbuka:
“One guy I’ve been saying over and over, and I think he’s a special guy, is Emeka Egbuka.” – Will Howard
Aside from finding a new quarterback to lead their team, the Giants have struggled along their defensive pass rush. The defense first saw a player with seven or more sacks in the past five seasons. This lack of performance does create some alarm bells as they approach the talent-rich draft of 2020.
“He’s got unbelievable route-running ability, he’s got great speed, he’s got some of the best hands that I’ve been around.” – Will Howard
Looking forward to the 2025 NFL Draft being here! As franchises home in on their picks and float the prospects of trades, it’ll generate loads of thrills and volatility. With several teams looking at quarterbacks and a wealth of talent available, the upcoming event will undoubtedly shape the future of many organizations in the league.
