Frozen Soups and Bowls Recalled Over Potential Wood Contamination

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced a large frozen soup and bowl recall. This action follows the recent finding of possible contamination with tar creosote treated wood. The recall is for a variety of Molly’s Kitchen and Campbell’s products within multiple categories. These items save better than specialty produce with sell-by dates extending into 2026. The USDA expects that the recall will be broadened to cover other frozen soup products shipped nationwide.

The affected products include Frozen Molly’s Kitchen White Bean Chicken Chili with a sell-by date of October 9, 2026, and Frozen Molly’s Kitchen Cheesy Chicken Enchilada Soup, which has a sell-by date of October 7, 2026. The recall covers Frozen Molly’s Kitchen Baja Cheesy Chicken Enchilada Soup. Sell-by dates of October 28, 2026, and December 11, 2026, are likely matches for the recalled product.

Also included in the recall are Frozen Sysco Chicken Tortilla Soup, with a sell-by date of November 10, 2026. The Frozen Healthy Request Mexican-Style Chicken Tortilla Soup is available through October 27, 2026. Frozen Molly’s Kitchen Chicken Tortilla Soup has a later sell-by date of November 13, 2026.

Campbell is recalling their Campbell’s brand of white and sweet potatoes from varied products as well. These are Frozen Campbell’s Chicken Tortilla Soup with sell-by dates of October 24, 2026, and December 15, 2026. Additionally, Frozen Campbell’s Baja Style Chicken Enchilada Soup has sell-by dates of 7 October 2026 and 3 November 2026. The recall applies to Frozen Campbell’s Spicy Chicken Nacho Soup, which has the same sell-by dates.

The recall includes one lot of the Frozen Vital Pursuit Northwest Style Beef Taco Bowl. Look for sell-by dates in April 2026 and May 2026 on your packages. Frozen Campbell’s Verve Wicked Thai Style Soup With Chicken has been affected as well. This program is set to sunset no later than October 24, 2026. Lastly, Meijer Crafted Market Coconut Chicken Thai Style Soup is part of the recall with multiple sell-by dates: May 21, 2025, May 29, 2025, June 3, 2025, and May 5, 2025.

The contamination is reportedly due to cilantro being found with wood particles, prompting concerns over the safety of these products. Consumers are warned to inspect their freezers for frozen pudding treats listed in the recall and not to eat these products. The USDA has reiterated the dangers of foodborne illnesses and stressed the need for people to return or throw away any products included in the recall.
