Dak Prescott Eyes Comeback After Season-Ending Injury

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, right, fetches a pass as he shoots around during pregame warmups. He’s taking things from a long-term view, but he’s incredibly focused on getting there and truly playing a full season. At 31 years of age, Prescott is hell bent on not just playing in 17 games but 20 this year. As he prepares to do just that with new energy,

As we discussed last season, Prescott faced an inordinate amount of pressure. He threw only 11 TDs to eight INTs before he was injured. This performance left him on pace for one of the most statistically dismal seasons of his career. Though these challenges impacted his performance, Prescott is 100% focused on making a comeback, bouncing back and performing better in 2023.

In September, Prescott secured a ground-breaking four-year, $240 million contract extension. This contract puts him atop the list as the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history in terms of annual average value. This significant contract underscores the Cowboys’ confidence in his abilities, and it adds pressure for him to perform at a high level upon his return.

After playing only eight games last season, Prescott’s injury cut short what might have been another highly productive season. In addition to that, he has an incredible 76-46 mark in 122 career starts. His talent and leadership on the field have rightfully gained him three Pro Bowl selections. Over his illustrious career, he’s thrown for 31,437 yards and a combined 213 touchdowns and 82 interceptions.

I know we’ve got team activities and mini-camp and stuff like that but the guys know what’s on the line, Prescott said. Similarly, I can absolutely picture myself engaging in any number or all of them. His determination to get back with his teammates and further his personal growth shows that he’s prepared to step back into the competitive arena.

To underscore just how ready he felt, Prescott added, “If I had to play a game today, I definitely could do that.” This statement is a testament to his outlook—his physical preparedness and mental determination to face whatever obstacles await him.

As he looks forward to the upcoming season, Prescott’s focus remains on maintaining his health and contributing significantly to the Cowboys’ success. The franchise continues to double down on him carrying the team back into contention. With good reason, as they hope to improve on a solid 2022-23 season next year.
