Davina McCall has been sharing some pretty amazing positive vibes about her recovery following surgery to remove a benign brain tumour. The former Voice of Ireland host made the announcement on television this morning. An MRI scan revealed that the colloid cyst, discovered during a routine public health check-up, had not recurred. This health issue sprung from her campaigning efforts on helping women understand menopause. Through her work, she hopes to educate women about critical issues in their reproductive health.

In craniotomy in November, McCall. This complicated surgical procedure included temporarily removing part of her skull in order to remove the colloid cyst. Benign tumors, like colloid cysts, are non-cancerous and account for less than 2% of all primary brain tumors. Still, McCall noted that they are not without life-threatening hazards. Her goal was to raise awareness and debunk the myth that benign brain tumours are not dangerous.

Benign does not mean okay, McCall said, pointing out the danger that these conditions can pose. The slow-growing nature of colloid cysts varies among individuals and can lead to different symptoms, further complicating their diagnosis and treatment.

In her recovery after surgery, McCall recalled the process as “the most difficult thing” she had ever done. In a tearful interview last month, she expressed gratitude for her recovery journey, stating, “I am so so grateful particularly because I know a lot of people have inoperable tumours and I know I’m lucky to be able to draw a line under this and move on with my life when so many people can’t.”

McCall’s significant other, Michael Douglas, has been an important local support while she’s recovered at home. He recognized the difficult journey in front of them, calling it a “huge journey.”

McCall knows her life in advocacy is just beginning. Now as she’s on the mend she’s advocating to show the public what a benign brain tumour really looks like. Her story is a great example of the power of preventive health check-ups and remaining educated about your personal risk of developing certain health conditions.
