"Some of a publicist's best work may never be seen," Daniel Bee, a publicist and brand consultant, also points out the evolving nature of celebrity-fan interactions.

The advent of social media has transformed how celebrities engage with their audiences, facilitating direct communication and diminishing some of the mystique traditionally associated with fame.

"It's now a two-way communication between celebrities and fans," says Daniel Bee.

With social media's influence, strategies like astroturfing—disguising orchestrated campaigns as spontaneous public opinion—have become more prevalent. Eriq Gardner, an entertainment law expert and founding partner of Puck News, highlights the longstanding presence of advisors and consultants in managing celebrity narratives.

"I'm not sure the public approaches what they read with enough skepticism," Gardner asserts.

As the legal battle unfolds, Lively has enlisted Nick Shapiro, formerly the CIA's deputy chief of staff, to guide her legal communications strategy. This move underscores the seriousness with which she is approaching the allegations and counterclaims.

Baldoni's legal response has been significant. He filed a $250 million lawsuit against The New York Times in December, challenging their reporting on the matter. However, a federal judge recently suggested that the lawsuit might be dismissed, indicating potential shifts in this high-stakes legal drama.

The public's reaction to harassment and abuse stories has grown more complex over time. Doreen St Felix comments on the current climate, noting that such stories often receive a "curdled, cynical, and exhausted reception." This sentiment reflects broader societal changes in how these issues are perceived and discussed.

Joan Crawford's words about Bette Davis resonate within this context.

"Bette is a survivor… She survived herself," Crawford stated.
