Ontario Premier Ford and Trump Engage in Heated Trade War Over Tariffs

Ontario Premier Doug Ford has ignited tensions with the United States by attributing potential recession risks to President Donald Trump's policies. Ford pointed to Trump's proposal of raising tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum imports to 50% as a significant trigger for economic unrest. This move comes in response to Ford's decision to impose a 25% tax on electricity exported to the United States, escalating an already tense trade relationship between the two neighbors.

In a bold stance, Ford has threatened to cease electricity exports to the U.S. if Trump continues with the current trade war tactics. He emphasized that he would not hesitate to take such measures, despite his reluctance to do so.

"I won't hesitate to do that. That's the last thing I want to do," said Ontario Premier Doug Ford.

President Trump responded by accusing Canada of using electricity as a bargaining chip, describing the tactic as stooping low. He further stated that Canada would face financial consequences for their actions in this trade war, asserting his intention to raise tariffs as a warning.

The Trump administration has indicated that while the president is considering doubling the tariffs, he has not yet signed any official paperwork to enact this change. However, Trump's rhetoric remains firm as he aims to challenge Canada with increased tariffs.

"If we go into a recession, it will be called the Trump recession," stated Ontario Premier Doug Ford, holding Trump responsible for potential economic downturns.

Despite the tough talk, Ford expressed a willingness to strengthen ties with the United States, highlighting Canada's position as a close ally and neighbor.

Ford predicted that if the trade war continues, its financial implications would be significant enough to be recorded in history books, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. Meanwhile, Trump remains resolute in his stance, insisting that Canada's actions necessitate a stringent response.
