A 78-year-old woman from East Alabama, Patricia Marie Burt, tragically lost her life following a brutal attack by two large Cane Corso dogs. The incident unfolded in a rural area southeast of Beulah, near the Georgia state line, at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Monday. Burt was visiting a friend in the Valley community when the horrifying event took place.
Burt arrived at her neighbor's house to visit her friend and was embracing her when the dogs attacked. Witnesses reported that Burt had walked over to the neighbor's residence, where the dogs were kept. In an attempt to stop the attack, Burt's husband, Thomas Burt, intervened by shooting the dogs. Despite his efforts, Patricia Marie Burt sustained severe injuries.
Emergency responders transported Burt to Piedmont Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries the following day. The Lee County Sheriff's Office has launched an investigation into the incident to understand the circumstances leading to this tragic event.
Deputies arrived at the scene after receiving a report of a dog attack in the yard of the neighbor's house. The case will be presented to a Lee County Grand Jury for further review. Authorities continue to investigate the details surrounding the incident, which remains under scrutiny.
The dogs involved in the attack were described as large Cane Corso breed dogs. This breed is known for its strength and protective nature, often used as guard dogs. The incident raises concerns about the regulation and management of such breeds in residential areas.
