Christina Fulton, former partner of acclaimed actor Nicolas Cage, has launched a lawsuit against him and their son, Weston Cage, citing "life-threatening injuries" she claims to have suffered in an alleged altercation. The legal action was filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court and centers around an incident that purportedly took place on April 28, 2024. Ms. Fulton alleges she visited her son after receiving "urgent messages" from his friends, leading to the reported confrontation.
The lawsuit comes amid a backdrop of previous legal troubles for Weston Cage. In June last year, authorities arrested him on two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon, following an incident where he allegedly attacked his mother and another individual. The lawsuit accuses Nicolas Cage of being aware of Weston's "long history of mental and psychological disorder" as well as prior alleged acts of "violent assault and battery." Despite this knowledge, Ms. Fulton claims that Nicolas Cage continued to provide financial support to their son.
Weston Cage's history of violence is well-documented. In 2011, he was arrested on felony domestic violence charges, to which he pleaded no contest and received a sentence of three years' probation. As a professional fighter weighing around 300 pounds, his physical presence adds a formidable element to the allegations. The lawsuit argues that Nicolas Cage enabled his son's behavior by purchasing him an apartment adjacent to his own residence and repeatedly bailing him out of jail.
In response to the lawsuit, Nicolas Cage's legal representative, Brian Wolf, dismissed the claims as "absurd."
"Weston Coppola is a 34 year old man," – Brian Wolf
Additionally, Michael A. Goldstein, another lawyer involved in the case, characterized the lawsuit as a ploy for financial gain and notoriety.
"It appears to be nothing short of a money grab and call for attention," – Michael A Goldstein
According to the lawsuit, Ms. Fulton is seeking unspecified damages for injuries she claims were inflicted during the alleged encounter. She accuses Weston Cage of assault and battery while holding Nicolas Cage accountable for negligence. The legal document elaborates on Weston's purported "manic rage" during the incident.
"manic rage"
This legal confrontation is not the first between Christina Fulton and Nicolas Cage. In 2009, Ms. Fulton filed a separate lawsuit against the actor over a financial dispute, indicating a history of contentious relations between the two.
The case raises questions about parental responsibility and accountability in situations involving adult children with complex behavioral challenges. While the court proceedings are yet to unfold, the public scrutiny surrounding this high-profile family continues to intensify.
