Kevin Spacey has responded to allegations made by actor Guy Pearce, who claimed that Spacey "targeted" him during the filming of the 1997 movie "LA Confidential." Spacey dismissed these accusations, urging Pearce to "grow up" and asserting, "You are not a victim." The exchange has reignited discussions about past incidents involving Spacey, whose career has been overshadowed by multiple allegations of inappropriate behavior.
Pearce previously described Spacey as "a handsy guy" in a 2018 interview. Spacey later acknowledged being "too handsy" and admitted to "pushing the boundaries" during an interview with Piers Morgan. In defense against Pearce's claims, Spacey highlighted that Pearce did not mention a subsequent visit to Georgia, where they spent time together after the completion of "LA Confidential."
In a recent conversation with the Hollywood Reporter, Pearce revealed that he had addressed Spacey's alleged behavior with him years later. He recounted having "a couple of confrontations with Kevin" that reportedly "got ugly." Pearce also expressed feeling safer on set when co-star Simon Baker was present, as he believed Spacey's attentions were diverted toward Baker.
Currently, Spacey is embroiled in a civil trial over an allegation of sexual assault on a man in 2008, which he denies. Additionally, another sexual abuse claim was filed against him at the High Court last week. These are among several allegations that have stalled Spacey's acting career in recent years.
Despite the ongoing legal challenges, Spacey was acquitted of all charges related to sexual assault against four men between 2001 and 2013 following a trial in London in 2023. Furthermore, a U.S. court dismissed a separate sexual assault lawsuit against him in 2022. Reflecting on these experiences, Spacey commented on the impact of the #MeToo movement, referring to it as "a really incredible wake-up call."
Spacey expressed frustration over Pearce's decision to go public with his allegations nearly three decades after the purported incidents. He stated in a video posted on X,
"If I did something then that upset you, you could have reached out to me" – Kevin Spacey.
He further noted,
"We could have had that conversation, but instead, you've decided to speak to the press, who are now, of course, coming after me, because they would like to know what my response is to the things that you said" – Kevin Spacey.
Additionally, Spacey extended an olive branch by offering to have a "conversation" with Pearce "anytime, anyplace."
