Over One Million Igloo Coolers Recalled Due to Safety Concerns

Over one million Igloo rolling coolers have been recalled across the United States, presenting a significant safety risk that has prompted immediate action. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall due to a potential hazard that can result in fingertip amputations and crushing injuries. This recall affects multiple models of the popular coolers, which were sold through prominent distributors such as Costco, Target, Academy, and Dick’s Sporting Goods, in addition to online platforms like Amazon and Igloocoolers.com.

The affected coolers were sold from January 2019 through January 2025 and prominently feature the "IGLOO" logo on their sides. The CPSC has confirmed that the recall is a response to reports of injuries associated with the product. As stated by the Commission,

“‘IGLOO’ is printed on the side of the coolers,” – U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission

Consumers are urged to cease using these coolers immediately to avoid the risk of injury. The recall follows 12 reported cases of fingertip injuries involving these coolers, including amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations. In a statement, the Commission noted,

“The firm has received 12 reports of fingertip injuries, including fingertip amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations,” – U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission

The recall is being conducted in collaboration with Igloo Products Corp., which is offering consumers a free replacement handle for the affected coolers. To obtain this replacement part, consumers can contact Igloo directly. The company has made its contact information available, with a toll-free number at 888-943-5182 and an email address at igloo90qt@sedgwick.com. Customer service is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday.

This proactive measure is aimed at eliminating the hazard posed by the current cooler handles. Igloo Products Corp. assures consumers that the replacement handles will be provided at no additional cost, ensuring both safety and satisfaction for their customers.

The decision to initiate this recall came after thorough investigations into the injury reports, highlighting the importance of consumer safety and product accountability. The CPSC is actively involved in overseeing the recall process to ensure that all necessary steps are taken to prevent further incidents.
