Young Eco Warrior Takes Action to Save the Planet

In Netley, Hampshire, a young boy named Teddy has made a significant impact on environmental conservation by collecting over 2,500 plastic confectionery tubs. This initiative is part of Greene King's Tub2Pub charity appeal aimed at reducing plastic waste. Despite Hampshire's current limitations in recycling these tubs via kerbside collection, Teddy's efforts have brought attention to the issue and inspired others in his community.

Teddy, who aspires to be a marine biologist or a stuntman, began his mission to save the planet by collecting these tubs, which are commonly used for chocolates, sweets, or crackers. Last year, he collected 358 tubs; however, this year he set a target of 500 and exceeded it remarkably, reaching 2,598 tubs within a month. His dedication shines through his actions and his desire to make a difference.

"I'm one little boy and it started with one tub and one dream to save the planet, and now look how many we've got." – Teddy

Teddy's admiration for environmentalist David Attenborough fuels his passion for conservation. He took proactive steps by writing a letter to his school about the recycling issue. The school responded by sending letters to parents, raising awareness among families. Additionally, Teddy and his mother displayed posters at local businesses to further spread the message of environmental responsibility.

"Teddy's realising now the issues we have, and is really keen on trying to get the message out there, and inspiring others to make a difference." – Laura

Despite Hampshire's current inability to recycle these tubs via kerbside collection, some UK authorities can manage this task efficiently. Teddy's initiative highlights the need for broader recycling capabilities in regions like Hampshire. The collected tubs will be taken to The Shamblehurst Barn pub and subsequently delivered to a plastic reprocessing centre.

"It doesn't matter what change you're making or how big or small, it does make a difference to our environment." – Laura

Teddy embodies the spirit of an "eco warrior on a mission," as described in his Facebook post. His commitment to saving the world through recycling efforts is not just commendable but also instrumental in driving change. Teddy believes in the importance of caring for the planet, as he succinctly puts it:

"We have one planet and we need to look after it." – Teddy
