The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified Cal Yee’s Dark Chocolate Almonds as a Class I threat due to an allergen risk from undeclared milk. This voluntary recall, initiated on January 22, 2025, stems from concerns that the contaminated product could lead to severe allergic reactions. While no illnesses have been reported, consumers are urged to avoid chocolate-based products, especially Cal Yee's Dark Chocolate Almonds (F-0409-2025), to prevent potential health hazards.
A Class I recall indicates "a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death," according to the FDA. The agency issued an enforcement notice on the same day as the recall, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. Consumers who have purchased the affected product should discard it immediately to mitigate any health risks.
This recall follows a previous incident involving Cal Yee Farm's chocolate and yogurt-covered products on December 12, 2024. That recall was also due to undeclared allergens, namely milk, wheat, soy, sesame, and almonds. The FDA warned that these products could "run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction" if consumed. However, the current recall of Cal Yee's Dark Chocolate Almonds is a separate incident from last year's event.
