Pedri Refutes Spain Boycott Rumors Amidst Olmo Registration Dispute

Barcelona's midfielder Pedri has firmly denied any consideration of a boycott by the club’s players against joining the Spain national team amid growing tensions over Dani Olmo's registration saga. The dispute revolves around Olmo and fellow Barcelona player Pau Víctor, who faced de-registration issues due to LaLiga's regulations. As the Spanish sports ministry, CSD, reviews Barcelona's appeal, both players have received a temporary reprieve allowing them to be re-registered. This development comes in time for their participation in the Spanish Supercopa final against Real Madrid in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Earlier, LaLiga ruled that Olmo and Víctor could not be registered again with Barcelona, citing rules against registering a player twice with the same club within a single season. The de-registration took place on December 31 after Barcelona failed to meet LaLiga's squad spending limits. In response, Barcelona filed an appeal, challenging the decision and seeking a resolution. Subsequently, the CSD granted a temporary injunction, permitting the players' re-registration while deliberating on the case.

The registration controversy sparked reactions across the Spanish football landscape, with several clubs, including Atlético Madrid, voicing criticism. These clubs argue that such decisions undermine the financial regulations designed to maintain the league's stability. Meanwhile, LaLiga is contemplating an appeal against the CSD's interim ruling.

Despite reports from Catalan channel TV3 suggesting that Barcelona's international players were mulling over a refusal to play for Spain if Olmo’s registration was rejected, Pedri has dismissed such claims. He clarified that Spanish law obligates players to respond to national team call-ups, regardless of club disputes.

"Every club has its opinion about each case," – Pedri

Pedri expressed his satisfaction regarding Olmo and Víctor's current status, emphasizing their significant contributions to the team. He shares a close bond with Olmo, describing him as an important player and regular companion during meals.

"It's difficult to travel here not knowing if you can play." – Pedri

As the situation remains under scrutiny, both Olmo and Víctor are poised to make impactful performances in upcoming fixtures. The ongoing legal and administrative proceedings continue to unfold, with Barcelona and LaLiga keenly watching for a definitive decision from the CSD.
