Bathroom Design Forecast: Trends Set to Dominate in 2025

As homeowners increasingly seek to transform their bathrooms into serene sanctuaries, design professionals have identified key trends expected to dominate the space by 2025. A survey of industry experts reveals a clear shift towards natural light, spaciousness, and organic elements. The results indicate a growing preference for design elements that enhance functionality while creating a peaceful atmosphere.

A significant 81% of professionals anticipate a surge in homeowners installing windows and skylights in their bathrooms, aiming to capitalize on natural light. This trend reflects an overarching desire to bring the outdoors in, creating brighter and more inviting spaces. Additionally, couples are prioritizing bathroom designs that cater to dual usage, emphasizing the need for spaces that accommodate two users simultaneously.

Freestanding tubs continue to capture the imagination of homeowners, with 85% of design pros affirming their popularity. These tubs offer a luxurious focal point, seamlessly blending form and function. Conversely, traditional clawfoot tubs are falling out of favor, with only 16% of experts predicting their prevalence in future bathroom designs.

In the realm of cabinetry, slab doors with soft-close hardware are set to take center stage. A majority of 61% of professionals forecast this trend, pointing towards a sleek and modern aesthetic. Meanwhile, shaker doors, though still in demand, will see diminished popularity, with only 42% of experts supporting this choice.

Countertop selections are also evolving, with quartz and quartzite emerging as the top contenders. Quartz leads the charge with 79% of professionals endorsing its use, while quartzite follows at 55%. Marble and granite lag behind, garnering support from 27% and 23% of experts respectively.

Bathroom flooring is undergoing a transformation as well, with large format tiles gaining traction. A notable 46% of professionals predict the continuation of this trend from walls to floors, favoring minimal grout lines for a seamless look. In showers, these tiles are expected to dominate, with 79% of pros declaring their popularity.

Patterned mosaic tiles will also make a strong comeback, with 51% of experts identifying them as a key trend. These intricate designs offer homeowners an opportunity to inject personality into their bathroom spaces. However, tiny tiles are falling by the wayside as 65% of professionals report a shift towards "natural" design styles.

Showers themselves are becoming focal points in bathroom design. An impressive 82% of professionals maintain that undermounts in polished or matte white will remain popular. In pursuit of more expansive shower areas, 43% of industry pros predict that walls will come down to accommodate this desire for space.

The overarching theme in bathroom design is a move towards organic and zen-like atmospheres. This consensus is driven by a desire for spaces that promote relaxation and tranquility. Homeowners are increasingly drawn to elements that evoke a sense of calm and connection to nature.
