Brooke Shields Embraces Beauty and Aging with Wisdom for Her Daughters

Brooke Shields
, the renowned model and actress, has been a fixture in the public eye since she began modeling at just 11 months old. Now at 59, Shields continues to influence not just through her work, but also through the values she imparts to her daughters, Grier and Rowan. As both young women pursue careers in modeling and broadcast journalism respectively, Shields seeks to guide them with lessons on beauty and aging.

Both Grier and Rowan are currently attending Wake Forest University in North Carolina, where they are laying the groundwork for their future careers. Grier is following in her mother's footsteps as she embarks on a modeling career, while Rowan is charting her own path in broadcast journalism and television presentation. Shields acknowledges the role that appearance plays in both fields but aims to instill a deeper understanding of beauty in her daughters.

A significant part of Shields' teachings is encapsulated in her recent book, "Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old." The book explores societal pressures to maintain youthfulness and her personal journey with aging. Shields emphasizes that beauty is not solely about outward appearances but is a part of one's individuality.

"Beauty means different things to different people and different cultures. And it’s not all you are. It is a piece and part of your individuality," Shields articulates, reinforcing the importance of embracing one's uniqueness.

Shields is acutely aware of the comparisons her daughters have faced, given their lineage. However, she chooses to address these pressures by communicating openly about beauty's subjective nature.

"I don’t shy away from telling them they’re beautiful, because they are, in my eyes as a mother! So I’m allowed that; it’s my prerogative," she states, underscoring her desire to affirm their worth beyond external perceptions.

Moreover, Shields aims to prepare her daughters for the realities of aging without fear. She encourages them to appreciate their current selves while also recognizing the natural progression of life.

"I look at my two girls—everything’s higher and tighter and smoother. And I know it’s all appealing and it does sell, but I want my girls to not be terrified to be my age," Shields expresses.
